About

Fred Schlitzer

Fred was born and raised in Pottsville, PA.  He studied art at Kutztown University, Kutztown, PA, and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

After college he moved to Washington, DC, where he continued to paint and draw for ten years.  He and his wife moved to the Hudson Valley in 1993 and reside in Cold Spring, NY.

Moving to New York opened up a new world for him in the usage of metals, welding, and sculpting.  He learned metal casting techniques working at the former Tallix Foundry in Beacon, New York, and at a local metal fabrication shop (Metal Concepts).  Fred’s artwork is constantly evolving.  He continues to explore different forms of artistic expression by learning new techniques and the use of multiple mediums.  He does not want to be labeled a painter or a sculptor…he is an artist in the true sense of the word.  His creative focus is open to all mediums and he is passionate about being a lifelong student of new methods to create art.  Prevailing influences in his artwork include themes of nature, landscapes, and whimsy.  His style is expressionistic, representational, and abstract.

Fred describes his art as “My emotions that I cannot put into words.”  His artwork has been exhibited in the Hudson Valley region, Washington, DC, Pennsylvania, and in private collections.
